Women's Wellness & Wellbeing

Mibaso Holistic Health has helped women of all ages to regulate their hormones using Acupuncture and holistic medicine since 2006. We are experts in the field of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and improving the quality of life for our patients is our mission.

Fertility
The global average of couples with fertility problems was 9% as of 2016. Many things contribute to this statistic such as pre-existing health conditions, high stress, poor diet, sedentary lifestyle, nulliparity, advanced age at time of attempted conception and more.  Assisted reproductive technologies are often very expensive and inaccessible. Evidence points to acupuncture offering an opportunity to promote natural fertility. In one study, the acupuncture protocol tested influenced women who received it compared to women who used lifestyle modification alone: their fertility awareness and wellbeing increased, and those who conceived did so in half the time.

Complementary and alternative medicines (CAM) are sometimes used by individuals who desire to improve the outcomes of their fertility treatment and/or mental health during fertility treatment. Among the various forms of complementary modalities, acupuncture has the highest level of evidence for its use in improving male and female fertility outcomes. Especially if stress is a factor, the positive impact of acupuncture on the couple’s quality of sleep, vitality and wellbeing is paramount to the ability to conceive.  It is well-known that it can be challenging to conceive when one or both people are under constant high stress.  Sometimes lifestyle factors such as work and exercise will need to be evaluated and re-prioritized.

Pregnancy & Miscarriage Prevention
Contrary to what you may think, acupuncture is safe and effective during all phases of conception and pregnancy.  In the first trimester of pregnancy, some women experience nausea, vomiting, headaches, fatigue and “morning sickness.”  Acupuncture is a great tool in all of these instances.  In the next two trimesters, some women experience, sciatica, back pain and other discomforts due to the size and weight of the growing fetus, placenta, and womb.  These symptoms can also be treated with acupuncture for pain relief.

Some women have trouble with miscarriage after they conceive.  Acupuncture can help to prevent miscarriage as well as uterine prolapse and hemorrhoids.  There are pressure points on the head that lift the energy of the body upwards and help to prevent and treat these conditions of sinking qi (vitality).

Breech Baby / Labor Induction / Childbirth / Post-Partum
Close to the end of the third trimester, when a baby is breech (not head down), the doctor will recommend c-section.  Acupuncture and other holistic health techniques can actually turn the baby in the belly so that it can  be delivered vaginally and the mother can prevent having to recover from surgery!

When a baby is past the due date and the mother doesn’t want to have the birth medically induced with drugs or to have a c-section, acupuncture can be utilized to stimulate uterine contractions and help induce labor naturally.  Acupuncture can also be used during natural childbirth to control pain (when the mother is not given an epidural or any other drugs).  After the birth, acupuncture can be used to help the mother to heal from any birth traumas or even just to transition back into feeling like herself again.

Acupuncture stimulates a release of serotonin from the brain, which is a neurotransmitter responsible for feelings of wellbeing.  Because of this combined with the fact that it also can help balance hormones, it can help to prevent post-partum depression, which many mothers might not even realize that they are suffering from, much less know where to turn for help.  Otherwise post-partum acupuncture can help non-depressed women with new born baby fatigue, and help with other changes that the woman may be experiencing in her body and spirit.

Menstrual irregularities
Menstrual irregularities include: Pre-Menstrual Syndrome (
acne, tender breasts, bloating, cravings, feeling tired, irritability, and mood changes), amenorrhea (absence of menstruation), menorrhagia (heavy menstruation), dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation), Oligomenorrhea (light or infrequent menstruation).  These may be caused by either a hormonal imbalance or by a condition such as uterine fibroids, uterine cancer, endometriosis or poly-cystic ovarian syndrome.  Acupuncture and holistic medicine (such as nutrition, supplements and herbal remedies) are able to restore balance to the body to regulate the menstrual cycle and eliminate discomfort and treats various forms of abnormal menstruation.

Menopause
The average age of menopause is 50 years old.  Some women stop menstruating without any symptoms.  Other women experience hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, intermittent bleeding, vaginal dryness, poor concentration, fatigue and other symptoms.  Women experiencing these symptoms have a few options.  The conventional treatment is hormone replacement therapy, however, if the women ever had breast or uterine cancer, she might not be a candidate for hormone replacement therapy (because of the concern for recurrence).
Acupuncture and holistic medicine (such as nutrition, supplements and herbal remedies) are also able to restore balance to the body to regulate the hormones and eliminate these uncomfortable symptoms to help this transition in life to go more smoothly and seamlessly in a natural way.

Ovarian Cysts, Uterine Fibroids, & Endometriosis
Many women have benign ovarian cysts filled with fluid and this is considered normal and nothing to worry about.  The water retention may wax and wane depending on where the woman is in her cycle.  Other ovarian cysts can be cancerous and early treatment is vital. If left untreated, cysts can cause complications including infection (the cyst fills with bacteria and pus, and becomes an abscess). If the abscess bursts inside the body, there is a risk of blood poisoning (septicemia).

Due to lifestyle factors such as poor diet, environmental pollution, stress, and hormonal imbalances, PCOS is becoming a more prevalent condition.  Symptoms include: infertility, acne, hirsutism, and male pattern balding.  This condition can be treated successfully with acupuncture and holistic medicine.

Uterine fibroids are very common and most often benign.  Many women don’t even know that they have them and they shrink during menopause when estrogen levels decline.  Other women may experience heavy or painful periods and rarely may develop uterine cancer.  If left untreated, fibroids can continue to grow, both in size and number. As these tumors take over the uterus the symptoms can become worse. The heavy bleeding and discomfort may worsen and may be accompanied by severe cramping.  Acupuncture can help to prevent and treat uterine fibroids.  By improving circulation to the uterus, it promotes the body’s ability to heal itself and the growths may shrink in size or completely dissolve.

Symptoms of endometriosis includes pelvic or belly pain which might start before the menstrual cycle and last for several days. It can feel sharp and stabbing, and it usually doesn’t go away with medication. Some women report that the gnawing or throbbing sensation can be rather severe. Acupuncture can help to prevent and treat endometriosis.  By improving circulation to the uterus, it promotes the body’s ability to heal itself and the hormonal balancing helps to regulate this condition which usually corresponds to high levels of estrogen in the body.

Weight loss
Acupuncture can be utilized as a tool to aid weight loss.  Together with a nutritious meal plan and healthy lifestyle, it can help people to reach their ideal weight faster by regulating internal organs, boosting metabolism, aiding digestion and elimination, reducing water retention and decreasing appetite.  For best results, it needs to be done on a regular basis and the lifestyle changes need to be permanent.  A healthy weight loss is with a personal trainer is expensive and slow, about 1-2 pounds per week. Our rapid weight loss program has incredible results. No shakes, no bars, no hunger, no gimmicks, just delicious and nutritious food.

Promote Health & Prevent Illness

Are you ready for round 2 of the corona virus, the 2nd wave?
Join Ahuva Gamliel, Acupuncture Physician, as she discusses simple immune system boosters that promote health and wellness and prevent sickness (even despite exposure to covid 19). With these simple tools you can thrive in the face of the virus and go on living your best life!
In Holistic medicine, the prevention and the treatment often involve the same ingredients (in different amounts).  And as they say, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."  This means that it's easier to prevent illness than to treat it once a person already has it.

During these times of uncertainty, it is of utmost importance to manage stress.  Stress can contribute to or trigger a wide range of health and mental health conditions including anxiety and depression and autoimmune and inflammatory conditions.  To prevent becoming overwhelmed and to continue to manage life successfully, it is vital to incorporate methods such as meditation, yoga, prayer, or breathwork to help control the mind and emotions and prevent yourself from potentially spiraling into a preventable condition.

Here is a relaxing meditation with affirmations to help Promote Health & Prevent Illness

Placenta Encapsulation

Placenta Encapsulation = Natural Post-Partum Depression Prevention!

As a practitioner of holistic medicine, I take pride in practicing what I teach.  When I was pregnant with my first child at age 32, I went to one of the birth centers where my midwife practices.  There I was introduced to the idea of having a doula or birth coach present at my daughter’s birth in order to help me through the process.

                                           Watch my 5-minute story onYoutube

A doula is a mother’s helper in labor. Her job is to keep mothers calm and relaxed so that they can allow their bodies to do what it is made to do, which is giving birth the natural way.

I figured I would need all the assistance that I could get since I was determined to have an all-natural drug-free birth.  That’s right, I chose to say “No” to the epidural.

My doula provided courses to all her clients throughout our pregnancies to teach us what to expect during the pregnancy and afterwards.  It was nice to have the group support and learn with other soon-to-be parents.

Although my naturopathic university has a midwifery program and I was exposed to natural births and naturopathic post-partum care, I had never heard of placenta encapsulation before.  My doula educated me on some of the benefits which include:

     •  Reintroducing the nutrients in the placenta back to the mother’s body
      •  Decreasing fatigue and mood swings
      •  Preventing loss of hair
      •  Producing more breast-milk
• Easing postpartum hormonal imbalances and fluctuations

Since I already had a tendency to experience PMS D (premenstrual depression) I wanted to do whatever I could (other than pharmaceuticals!) to prevent the dreaded post-partum depression.  When I learned that placentophagy could assist with that, I was thrilled about this practical solution which animals do in nature.

One of my holistic health practitioners told me that her husband grilled up her placenta like a steak and she ate a meal that was cooked with it.  That didn’t sound too appealing to me but my doula encapsulated my placenta and taking 2 capsules a day to keep the blues away seemed like a smart plan to me!

  • Trained in Food Safety Handling

My doula was with me for the entire 18 hours of labor.  You know, it’s called labor for a reason!  We labored in the shower, in a small pool, and all over my apartment!  I had terrible back pain and my doula helped me through it with massage, hot water, a yoga ball, and reassuring words.

After my home-birth to a healthy, happy, & drug-free 9 lb 6 oz baby girl, my doula stayed with me and washed my placenta of all the blood and cut it up in my kitchen.  She brought a special small oven that stayed at my house so I could be sure that the placenta that I ingested was my own and not one made in China!

The next day when the placenta was all dried up, she used the Magic Bullet to grind the pieces into powder.  Next she sat at my table and carefully encapsulated all the powder that was produced.  I think I had about 70 pills.

I kept the capsules in the freezer and took them daily.  I felt like they helped me to recover.

My only regret was that I did not save any for 13 months later when my daughter weaned herself from nursing.  I did experience some post-lactation blues but it was definitely manageable!

In the event that I am so blessed to have another child, you can bet that I will be doing placenta encapsulation again and that I will save some for later too!
